If you had a special ability, what would you like to have? Legion of Bats is full of people with different kinds of abilities hiding from regular humans.

Zoe Masterson was always the one to blame in town when something went wrong. It isn't until a fire claims a life that they finally came after Zoe. She is taken to the mental facility and quickly finds out that the facility isn't what it seems to be. She learns that she has the ability do anything that her mind can think of. Turns out the strange unexplainable things that happened in the past, was caused by her. While in the facility, she learns to control her powers, learns she was adopted, falls in love with her Guardian, Icarus. Icarus helps Zoe, learn of her birth parents, keeps her safe, and loves her dearly. Only thing is, their love is forbidden by the current government.

Shadow Stephens has created another book that I had trouble putting down. At first, when Zoe was introduced into the facility, my mind went to X-men. However, my thoughts were quickly snuffed. Stephens created such an intricate web of people and abilities, you didn't know what everyone would be capable of doing.

The best aspect of the book for me was the love that Zoe and Icarus have for each other. They radiated love and it touched my heart.

If you are looking for a great fantasy mixed with a love story that spans dimensions, this book is for you.

Legion of Bats Shadow Stephens 9781475283099 Books Reviews

When I first saw this little jewel I downloaded it to my kindle thinking I would get around to reading it. Not only did I "get around to reading it" I couldn't stop reading it. Shadow Stephens weaves a spell of suspense that put me right into the story. I wanted to grab Zoe and pull her out of the trouble she kept getting into. I could actually feel her energy as I turned the page of my kindle wondering how she and her friends were going to win against evil.
This little book was well written and well laid out - it made the reader not want to stop reading. In my book that is a five start review any day. Keep up the good work.
With paranormal books being my favorite genre, I am especially delighted when I find one that stands out among the others. The Endowed are powerful creatures who keep their existence secret.

Many of the endowed grow up with their parents so they learn to harness their powers but Zoe, was hidden away and adopted to protect her identity. Growing up feeling different than everyone and watching people ignore her and shy away from her, Zoe was happy to be with her own kind and finally had a feeling of fitting in somewhere.

Zoe has always felt safe and couldn't really figure out why, until she meets the one who has always protected her without her knowing.

A wonderful story full of imagination with warm and adventurous characters.
I bought this book because of the story line and the fact that it takes place in WV. I loved the story line and when I realized that it took place in the town just west of my hometown I was eager to see how well the book represented our state and the people. For the book plot I loved it and had a hard time putting it down. As for how the author represented our state and and people I was disappointed for someone from WV to describe the great people and area as she did in some places was very upsetting. Yes there are places were because of the burning of mine waste the air may smell of rotten eggs, those places are very few and the area around Weston is not one of them. Also the people are not like described, the description given would have been good for the 1930's or even maybe the 1950's not today.

I would recommend the book for story line and I hope there maybe more books is this line if the research in the area improves.
I've learned that in the world of free books, there are very very few amazing ones. There are those that are readable, no doubt... But to find one that knocks your socks off and makes you seek out the author and beg them for another? RARE.

Legion of Bats rocked my socks. I initially read it on a recommendation from a friend. It takes place in a fictional version of our hometown, so that alone was reason enough to give it a shot. Also, it was free. I like free things. I'll TRY any book.

I started it with low expectations. I find it best to start out that way. What I quickly found was that I couldn't put it down. As a wife and mother, my days of finishing novels in one sitting are over. If not for my responsibilities, this book would have been devoured immediately. It kept me flipping pages long after I should have been asleep.

Zoe, the main character, is a bit whiny and immature at times. Without the author telling us how old she was, I would have expected to find her in her late teens rather than mid twenties. Despite that, you will root for her from the beginning. She's had a rough go of it, the punches just keep coming, and she fights all the way through. What's not to like?

Icarus, her Guardian, is a heart throb of epic proportions.

The friends (and enemies) Zoe makes at Weston State Hospital are all very realistically written (if one can step into the world of the paranormal and extraordinary for a bit). There's a wanna-be love interest, an easy-to-love best friend, a couple teens who are like younger siblings... Zoe really finds a family who understands what it's like for her.

I can't write a shining review and completely overlook the things that I did find annoying (SORRY, SHADOW!!). There are a few grammar and mechanics issues. They're not glaring, and they're not terribly distracting. Hardcore grammar nerds may have an issue, but I managed without my red pen. Parts of the story feel really rushed. I wish the author had taken the time to flesh out those parts a bit more. It really felt like maybe she was just trying to get through certain parts so she could move on to other ideas. I can't name specifics because the one that sticks in my mind the most is a very pivotal part of the story, but it deserved more attention than it received. I actually had to read it twice because it happened and was over so fast, I thought it couldn't be right because it totally needed more fleshing out.

That being said, this is totally worth the regular list price. I would happily buy it knowing what I know now. I'll eagerly await the next book from Shadow Stephens and hope for a follow-up to Legion, because it could easily be a series!
