The premise for this book intrigued me! And I wasn't disappointed. Brooklyn's character is messed up, in a way that fascinated me. Her background, her obsession makes her a unique and complex girl. It was a pleasure to be allowed in her twisted mind. Driven to get to the end to see how the story played out, I read this one pretty fast. The book is well-written, despite a few spelling mistakes and missing words... oops, mistakes happen. *shrug* At the beginning of each chapter is a paragraph in italics that made me weep for joy at the gorgeousness of the words. Weep, people. I reread many of them numerous times to soak in the pretty, pretty words.
Not a romance lover, I enjoyed the love story, but the lusty scenes did bother me. Brooklyn's sexual past wasn't exactly clear, I thought she was a virgin... but the way she went after Daniel seemed very experienced and adult-like and I never can connect with lusty scenes, they always seem unrealistic to me (probably just me). Also with her terrible past, I didn't quite buy that she'd be so willing to be that intimate with a guy. The sex scenes did happen off camera.
The underlying feel of danger lurked through the story and when it finally struck I was captivated... I was frightened.
The end left me wanting a bit more. After so much of dealing with her obsession, I wanted that to rear its ugly head in the final scene to tie in with the rest of the book. I wasn't sure how I wanted the story to end, it teetered on the edge of a few different directions then BAM... *gasp*
Overall I really liked it! Can't wait to read more of her work.

I really enjoyed this book. The main character is well written and her relationship with Daniel is a good romance story. I was surprised with the ending..this book does keep you guessing!
A friend shared The Bleeding Heart with me, not my usual reading material. You feel for Brooklyn and want a happy ending for Brooklyn and Daniel, not in this story. Surprise ending!!! Looking forward to more from Amy.
I absolutely loved this! I loved everything about this book—the setting was vivid, Brooklyn is a remarkable character, and the thriller/scare. It was so amazing. If you like a creepy, thrilling, romantic read — this is a MUST READ.
It's all the glory of horror, meeting all the romance and beauty of NA.
I've been meaning to pick this book up for a long, long time. I got it roughly around the time it was published and, for some reason I just never got around to reading it until now. Now that it's over, I am literally kicking myself in the face for not reading this gem sooner.
I absolutely devoured this book. Everything from Brooklyn's character, to the writing style, to the epic descriptions of blood and tattooing was absolutely stunning. This is a serious recommendation for anyone looking for a great horror read. Period.
There's a lot about The Bleeding Heart that works, the main focus being Brooklyn's character. If I had to compare her to anyone, it would probably be Dexter in the sense they both have an unquenchable urge to blood, but whereas Dexter is more calculating and far less sadistic, Brooklyn actually enjoys what she does. She's sadistic and quite content with causing pain and mutilation. Her urge doesn't extend to murder, but in a way that makes Brooklyn a far more terrifying character.
I really enjoyed Brooklyn's narration, especially since she didn't have any qualms about causing pain. It was just something she wanted to do and I liked how this book wasn't her trying to fight the urge, but embracing it. There are far too many books where people try to fight their "dark urges". I wanted a book where they give in to their darkness and just kind of live with that.
And yes, this is that book, if you couldn't tell.
So, if Brooklyn's sadism isn't the main focus of the book, what is? Well, that title just so happens to go to the lovely Daniel. Most of the book is dedicated to Brooklyn's choices as to whether or not to let Daniel into her life. Her growth, not to mention the chemistry with Daniel, was amazing. Brooklyn's development was astoundingly real as well as her relationship with Daniel. Seriously, I treasured every word between those two.
In addition to Brooklyn and all her glory, I found the entire tattooing angle fascinating. The way Brooklyn described the needle and the ink and the way she blended those two together into beauty and pain was incredible. Her descriptions made me simultaneously want to get a tattoo and stay as far away from a tattoo parlor as humanly possible. Plus, bonus points for actually making a tattooing scene feel erotic. Was not expecting that, but I'm not complaining.
Really, the only criticism I have with the book is the pacing. It's not that it was too fast or too slow, it just felt disjointed. Something would be thrown at us, and then the plot would pick up, then slow down, and then pick up again. It's not bad per se, but I can see how some readers might be put off by it.
Never the less, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all its gruesome glory and I can't wait to read the next book Guiffrida has up her sleeve.
This book, guys, this book.
Brooklyn hasn't had it easy. She went through a traumatic experience that no one should ever have to go through and it hasn't left her without scars. Visible and invisible. She's finally learning how to cope with what happened and who she is and then Daniel comes into her life, spinning it all out of proportion.
That's all you need to know about this story, because you need to experience it for yourself. It's not a book for weak-hearted. It's not a book for people who like light and fluffy love stories. It's a book about darkness and pain and figuring out who you are after you've been undone.
I don't want to give too much away of the story or anything, but I can tell you that I loved it. Amy has a way to tell her stories that I love because she's not afraid to take chances, to explore the darker side of human nature. It's that courage to write stories that aren't often told that I love about Amy's books and am so excited that the world can read them now too!
I can't wait for you guys to read this book!!!
